This new home in the Berkeley hills sits on a tree covered hillside lot nestled among seven coastal live oak trees protected by City ordinance.  The house floor plan steps down the slope, and weaves between the protected trees, taking great care to avoid damage to the roots while maximizing tree top views.  The building wraps around two sides of a central level area courtyard with the third side flanked by an accessory building on the third.  The design is predicated on the use of a structural strategy to minimuze excavation and land disturbance.
